Our Founder
Michael D. Rosco, mason, US Army Captain, Doctor, and avid SCUBA diver founded our organization, the International Society of Aquatic Medicine in 1975 as a way to merge his passion for SCUBA diving and medical education. With members from every state and multiple countries, annual meetings and dive trips to the Caribbean, Indonesia, Fiji, and beyond – we owe our success and gratitude to our founder Dr. Rosco!
The Society offers unique opportunities to dive in exotic places and at the same time obtain knowledge, competence and improvement of patient care while earning CME credit. Our programs focus on Recreational Dive Medicine including topics of hyperbaric medicine, diving safety, treatment of venomous animal stings and bites, travel medicine and diagnosis and treatment of decompression illness.
Our annual spring meetings are typically held in the Caribbean area, and it is at that meeting most of our members attend. AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM or AAFP Prescribed Credits have been offered. Twice a year smaller groups venture to even more distant locales such as Fiji, Indonesia, Palau, the Maldives, as well as other dive sites in the Caribbean. On each of our smaller trips we have an instructor to provide stimulating conversations and lectures pertinent to diving. The smaller meetings offer the opportunity to claim Elective CME Credits.
